We introduced a two day course on Coptic binding this year. With all new courses there are a few areas that could be improved to make it run more smoothly, but this one went without too many issues arising.
The concept of exposed stitching has been around for a really long time, and the variety and artistry of the stitching is something that can be left to the individual bookbinder without impacting too greatly on the strength and quality of the book. The style we chose to use reflects that of the earliest known style from which the name Cptic comes. This is a great starting point as it gives a great look, can be done reasonably quickly, but hints at such a range of options available to the bookbinder to experiment with.
Some of the books produced are shown in the Gallery section.
